As a longtime Carroll County resident and local real estate professional, I've had the opportunity to watch the area grow and change over the years. One of the first things I tell people considering a move here is that Carroll County isn't just one type of community.

Eldersburg and Sykesville offer a very different experience from Westminster. Travel farther north and you'll find another feel in communities such as Hampstead and Manchester, while areas such as Taneytown, New Windsor, Mount Airy and Union Bridge each have their own character.

For many of the buyers I've worked with, the attraction is the balance.

People can enjoy more space, community events, outdoor recreation and a somewhat slower pace of life while still having access by car to employment, shopping and entertainment in surrounding areas.

Carroll County is also very car-oriented. Buyers moving from an area with extensive public transportation should understand that having reliable personal transportation can be an important part of living here. Carroll Transit System does provide public transportation options within the county, but the experience is different from living in a community served by a large urban rail and bus network.
